Über Patterns

So far you have noticed a number of patterns and tested those patterns by making predictions. For example, you have probably noticed that…

  1. If you have a syringe with the blue cap on and push the plunger down and then release it, the plunger will go back up (almost) to where it started.
  2. If you have a syringe with the blue cap on and pull the plunger up and then release it, the plunger will go back down (almost) to where it started.
  3. If you connect two syringes with a small plastic tube and push one of the plungers down, the other plunger will go up by (almost) the same amount you pushed the first plunger down.
  4. If you connect two syringes with a small plastic tube and pull one of the plungers up, the other plunger will go down by (almost) the same amount you pulled the first plunger up.

While having these four patterns is nice, it would be even nicer to have one über-pattern that works for all four scenarios. Any thoughts?
