When we take off the blue caps and pull the plunger on syringe A up to 15 and the plunger on syringe B up to 25, air particles (represented by the 40 green dots) enter the syringe. When we put the small plastic tube on, the syringes becomes a closed system and air particles can no longer get in or out. So when we pull the plunger on syringe A up to 35, the plunger on syringe B goes down to 5, and there are still a total of 40 green dots in the syringe.
